Richard has over 30 years’ experience in dealing with HMRC enquiries/investigations.  He worked for HMRC for nearly 18 years.  After completing initial training he worked in employer compliance specialising in employee benefits and directors remuneration issues before training to be an Inspector of Taxes where he dealt with a mixture of full and aspect enquiries in respect of sole traders and partnerships.  After becoming increasingly frustrated with the formulaic approach being adopted by HMRC he left and worked for 2 years in a small local practice.  He then joined CCH, initially working on the telephone helplines providing general taxation advice, before moving onto the consultancy group.  He has now worked on the consultancy team for 11 years dealing with full enquiries into sole trader, partnership and small companies accounts.  This might involve assuming full responsibility for the case and dealing directly with HMRC or providing consultancy support to accountants about procedural/technical issues arising in cases.

Andrew Scrivens

Andrew Scrivens

Andrew has been a part of this business for over 20 years. Having previously worked for HMRC and then small, medium and national accountancy firms. Initially, he worked on the telephone advice lines but soon moved on to join the consultancy team as an Employer Compliance Specialist.

During his time with the Consultancy Team Andrew has successfully represented a wide range of clients in handling HMRC Employer Compliance Reviews which have included subjects such as benefits in kind, operation of PAYE, CIS, IR35, employment status and national insurance. Andrew’s extensive experience makes him invaluable to both clients and his colleagues alike, and he has been at the forefront of advising clients on changes to the employment taxes landscape through his many years of membership of HMRC’s national “Working Together” forum.

Paul Moscardini

 

Paul has 30 years experience working within HMRC. He spent 20 of these as an Inspector of Taxes, initially dealing with enquiries into sole traders, partnerships and limited companies. During his latter 10 years as a senior Inspector he was responsible for managing other investigative Inspectors, including a team dealing with cross tax issues.

Having left HMRC in 2009, Paul has had a further 7 years experience representing all manner of businesses under enquiry from smaller sole traders to larger corporate concerns. He has had particular successes defending clients against HMRC allegations of deliberate misconduct, and negotiating settlements with substantial reductions to that originally sought by HMRC. Also has experience in negotiating resolutions through HMRC’s Alternative Dispute Resolution process.

Mark Doodney

Mark was with HMRC for 28 years and undertook technical training to the highest level within that organisation. Prior to Leaving HMRC, he was officer in charge of an office in Devon until its closure as part of the restructuring of HMRC in May 2015.

During his time with HMRC he undertook a large number of roles ranging from Corporation Tax specialist working with large companies to Compliance Team Leader of a team undertaking Income Tax enquiries. For the last couple of years at HMRC in addition to personally working Corporation Tax enquiries and managing a small compliance team he specialised in advising colleagues in other districts on complex Capital Allowances issues. In this role he worked for HMRC Head Office providing consultancy advice to Local Compliance caseworkers across Wales and Southern England and also helped write the Agent’s Toolkit on this subject. He has many years of experience of the HMRC tax enquiry and penalty regimes, both as a case worker and manager. Since leaving HMRC he has also been involved in preparing Research & Development Tax Credit claims.
